Positive Changes Hypnosis

Hypnosis and weight loss, does it work?

Published by on October 28, 2010

I am wanting to lose weight but really need to change my mindset about how I see myself etc. Has anyone tried hypnosis and what is your experience of it? Does it work?
Please note that I am aware it is all about self control etc etc but what I asked is if anyone had tried it and whether it worked for them!!

I have lost weight through weight loss hypnotherapy, i was a massive 22 stone, sorry to say, but after looking at gastric band operations which i was turned down for by my doctor and deciding i could not go private i looked into other ways to lose weight which included loads of diets which were useless.

After hearing a programme on the BBC where a woman went on called Claire Hegarty who they said was one of the UK leading Hypnotherapy weight loss experts, i started to listen to the programme and then after doing some research into weight loss hypnotherapy i contacted claire the next day. She gave me an hour of her time on the phone where she explained how hypnosis for weight loss works and then i went to meet her and became her client.

I am now 11 stone and a couple of pounds but lets not talk about them lol.

But if you are thinking about the gastric band operation then read this article about a women who had an operation to have a gastric band fitted and it is not nice as it all went wrong

Here is a great article on what happens when people think a gastric band operation is a quick fix. A gastric band operation should be the last resort as this lady found out and weight loss hypnotherapy should be one of your first thoughts.

i doubt hypnosis works, its all about self control. think about it, if it really did work, why aren’t more people doing it? x

You can do everything if you believe.
Hypnosis is just the way that induce you to believe.

I am a hypnotist and use hypnosis with clients who want to lose weight.

It works for some and doesn’t work for others. There are a few reasons why it doesn’t work in some cases. There may be a physical reason for the weight gain eg a thyroid problem, polycystic ovaries or an intolerance. The person may just not believe that it can work for them and so their heart isn’t in it. The person thinks that hypnosis is like waving a magic wand and they don’t have to change their behaviour in any way.

For people who don’t fit into one of those categories it should be successful. The types of issues I address in weight loss sessions are why people overeat, eat the wrong types of food, snack, comfort eat or don’t exercise. Sometimes it is pure habit, usually started when they were told to eat everything on their plate as a child. Sometimes there is an emotional reason and addressing that changes their attitude to food. Sometimes it’s about creating enthusiasm for eating healthily and giving motivation for exercise.

With my clients I tend to do 4 sessions over about 2 months as this gives us time to address different issues that come up and also make sure that the weight loss happens.

To the person who asked why more people don’t use hypnosis if it works: The main reason people don’t use it is because they don’t know enough about it. It’s often not taken seriously. A lot of my clients ask me why people aren’t taught hypnosis as children because it makes such a difference. When was the last time your doctor prescribed hypnosis to you? It unfortunately doesn’t happen that often and people usually go to their doctor for advice. Also, in the UK where a lot of our healthcare is free, people have to pay for hypnosis because it’s rarely funded through our healthcare system.

Like all hypnosis plans, the goal is to change how the subconscious works. Training your subconscious will make changes to the way you think and the way you act, catapulting you to making positive changes in your life. I think most people are familiar with using hypnosis for quitting bad habits like drinking and smoking. By changing the subconscious, the desire and the need to those things lessen, making you able to control your urges. The same basic principals from those procedures are being used for weight loss hypnosis.

The goal of weight loss hypnosis is to change you over time; this is not an instant solution that is going to shed pounds in the first week. Instead, over time you stop eating fast food and it does not taste nearly as good, you stop ordering pizzas, you stop eating because you are nervous or excited, and you stop eating out of habit. This is a tool to teach you to change to a healthier diet, and to stop eating bad foods by replacing them with good foods.
